Ben Weiner

When we started this session, I wanted to make sure Ben had something more than just a typical headshot. I knew the video would give him the chance to show galleries the art-making process in a more engaging and visceral way. But, I also wanted to get portraits that could really complement any written work about him. Having both gives clients like Ben a fuller way to share their story—through visuals that feel alive and personal, paired with words.

I had such a great time working with New York-based painter Ben Weiner on his video artist statement. We spent the afternoon in his studio, where he showed me how he creates his stunning pieces by combining drugs and inks. It’s a really raw and unique process, and it was amazing to watch the art come to life. We captured some process shots and had some time for portraits that would fit with any artist statement or article.

We worked through his process, getting shots of him creating and talking about his work. The headshots felt like the perfect way to round out the day, showing Ben not just as an artist, but as a person. It’s all about creating images that help share the bigger picture of who the artist is, and how their work comes to life.

One of the things I love about video is how it brings everything together. The visuals, the process, and the voice of the artist all come to life in a way that just feels so much more immersive. It’s not just about showing the finished pieces, but about sharing the entire journey, making the work feel even more connected to its audience.
